WAMAC NEWSLETTER Feb. 2010

John Miller wanted me at the meeting for Show and Tell, and especially covering the Georgetown Swap meet.

I have know idea who else from the club to go.  I got a late start and got there shortly after 9.  This is my first time at the community center, the last time I went was at the airport.  In my judgment that was better for good weather.  Inside the center this year was crowded with just enough room to go down the aisles, with watching not to snag a wing tip or other parts.
Plenty of members from TMAF, HOTMAC and Temple and other clubs with the tables.  Prices were good and at the time, for  the time I was there, not that many junkers, per say.
I made off with the best deal ever, I bought a Jim Smith   Perfection.   Since I've been around several flying fields and hobby shops and I know what these models cost.  In hobby shops this model would sell for over $200 easy, I paid less then $50, it's not junk, I'm in the process of servos, batt , etc.  I rate this Perfection with those hanging at Waco hobby and other shops for well over $200.  The only other item that had to be bought so to get it flight ready is the receiver, this time a Spectrum 2.4 and a motor mount.  Oh yes, the covering is perfect.  I know I can expect offers for it everytime I get to the field with it,  I'll hang on to this one.

The Weatherford swap meet is coming up next month, it too is rated as one of the best in this area.  The last time I went before Donna had to have the operation, I came out of that swap with 2 brand new RC's, one was a sportsterize P-51 with civilian style paint, a 40 size and the other an electric powered sail plane, still in the box, both for a grand total of $90.

The Highland Lakes swap meet was good, but smaller, there two new kits total $100

I've written in other newsletters about Bomberfield.  Not only can you see some of the finest " scale" built planes, but If you, as I do, walk the line like every 1 1/2 to 2 hours during the day, you will see that new vendors have set up and an aray of models and accessories for sell I came from there with a new electric ARF, an He 163

John Miller knows of the bargains to be had at the swap meets and I have learned, Having a sharp eye is a must, knowing a good deal is another, and now I know, being at the right place at the right time----WOW.

Since John got the indoor flying going in December, the turnouts has been good.  If you haven't tried it, you might be missing a good time.
Knowing the weather is bad now, inside there is no winds to speak of, just the turbulance of a passing plane.  I've been indoor flying for 3 years and not once have I left the gym without having at least one good laugh, there's always something going to happen.
Now I'm one to be waiting for a good day to get to the flying field.
